In this place, Gregory the Illuminator, the 4^th century founder of the Armenian Apostolic Church, was imprisoned in a deep dungeon for 13 years.

Zvartnots Cathedral is located not far from the Etchmiadzin Cathedral in the Armavir Region. The cathedral is believed to have been built ca. 643-652, during a time of turmoil.

Shoghakat has a unique architecture that is called domed hall. The interior has a vaulted gallery above the entrance that was built at the same time with the church.

Saint Gayane was built in Vagharshapat town. The 10^th-century Armenian historian Catholicos H.Draskhankertsi states, that the church was founded by CatholicosYezr between 630 and 641.

Oshakan is well known among pilgrims of the Armenian Apostolic Church.  However, it is most popular as the place where Mesrop Mashtots was burried.
